House No. 191: Spice Rack House

House No. 191: Spice Rack House
design and plans
projected size: 16 in. x 32 in. x 8 in.
191/365; 07/10/11

A few years ago, I read a review by Frank Bruni of the late restaurant Elettaria entitled A Doll’s House with a Spice Rack. I remember little more about the review other than thinking that I absolutely had to have a dollhouse spice rack.

The design is based on Second Empire architecture.

The interior is going to be lined with chrome wire racks that hold 4 oz. glass spice bottles.

Many advance thanks to the Werepanda, who will be helping me with the power tools.

  1. What an excellent project. I have spice rack envy.

  2. Yes, me too. I second Jess.

Are the spice containers going to be dressed up like dolls? Or have period furniture etched on them too?

  3. Beth, I love, love, love that idea! I had not even thought of doing anything to the jars. Now I am thinking that I need to etch them or something with furniture imagery.

Sigh. I am so in love with my imagined spice rack. I can't wait to start on the decorating of the front. I want to shingle the roof.

  4. Oh my goodness, I am so in love with this spice rack! And the fact that it is all in someone's imagination makes it even better-- it is perfect, whatever it is, without flaws.

  5. Thanks, Johannah. I look forward to gradually making it a reality. I've had it in my head for so very long!
